«How to fill the shopping bag to the maximum? It takes method”

It seems that the younger fans of the event have understood that it’s all about training. To place 25-30 books inside the canvas bag requires method. Raffaella Acquaviva of Di Mano in Mano confirms, «it’s like in the game of tetris, tactics make you win». For the sixth year in a row, the social cooperative is organizing “All you can read” on Saturday 8th, which allows you to stock up on books without emptying your wallet (10am-7pm, viale Espinasse 99, while supplies last). «We invented a format to give a second life to the books accumulated in the warehouse and thus save tons of paper, without foreseeing that it would become a success», says Acquaviva, «mile-long lines, bookshops that imitate us, not to mention the very lively community who posts stories about the spoils he conquered.” The rule, established in the first edition, has never changed: ten euros to fill the cotton shopping bag to the brim with books (created especially for the occasion, in the photo) distributed at the entrance. Thirty-five thousand volumes — Di Mano in Mano has done the math: it means save 100 quintals of pages from waste, and the saving in terms of Co2 is 262 thousand kg — expect new readers, «all genres covered. In our special treasure hunt, Italian and foreign fiction, fantasy, detective stories, non-fiction, manuals, recipe books, albums for children come into play, as well as modern gems, books published before the 1960s, which cannot be found because they have gone out of print.” All you can read is a model of sustainability that meets and excites even those who live outside the city limits.

The arrival, in 2022, of a bus from Rome is legendary, a not isolated case, people from different parts of Italy are expected this time too. «Attention to the environment has always been at the center of the social cooperative – concludes Acquaviva – we have been giving value to second-hand goods for 25 years and with green commercial activity we are introducing fragile and disadvantaged people into the world of work».
