First appointment of the month of June for the exhibition Books at the Museum, the initiative promoted by Roma Capitale, the Capitoline Superintendency of Cultural Heritage which hosts the presentation of publications dedicated to the history of art, museology and cultural heritage in various museum locations. The presentation of the volume will be held on Wednesday 5 June at 5.00 pm in the Sala Tenerani of the Museum of Rome at Palazzo Braschi (Piazza di San Pantaleo, 10). Pellegrino da Modena in Raphael’s workshop by Cristina Conti.

Speakers during the event will be Ilaria Miarelli Mariani (Director of the Civic Museums Directorate of the Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage), Carmelo Occhipinti (University of Rome Tor Vergata), Anna Maria Ambrosino Massari (University of Urbino). The author will be present. Entrance is free while places last. Museum services of Zètema Progetto Cultura.

The volume returns a completely new profile of Pellegrino da Modena, thus far the most enigmatic of Raphael’s collaborators. Arriving in Rome at the time of Pope Julius II, Pellegrino soon gained the trust of Raphael and Baldassarre Peruzzi, who involved him in some of the main artistic undertakings of the early sixteenth century. His participation in Sanzio’s workshop and his relationship with the architect Antonio da Sangallo the Younger led to an impressive updating of the Modenese artist’s painting on the models of the modern manner, which earned him the praise of Giorgio Vasari. The book redraws the geography and path of Pellegrino between Rome and the Lazio area until the painter’s return to Emilia and the extreme phase of his activity: a very short but crucial season for the subsequent generation of Modena painters and at the same time to follow the early circulation of the language of Raphael’s school north of the Apennines, a breath before the arrival of Giulio Romano in Mantua.
