It will be inaugurated tonight (Thursday 9 April), at 8pm in Corso Giolitti on the corner of Via Bassignano, “Dikatomi”, the sculpture by Furkan Depeli which won the 25th edition of the international Sculpture to Live competition promoted by the Peano Foundation.

The work was created entirely by hand in black Marquina marble by Depeli, a Turkish artist, at the time a student at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara. The edition was that of 2021 and had as its theme “Rebirth”: the then current existential crisis conditioned by the persistence of the virus was interpreted in a cathartic sense towards a supreme spirit of sharing and bonding capable of overcoming the contradictions, the “dichotomies ” and the obstacles of living. A life experience that can begin to germinate again as alluded to by the two figures encapsulated in a geometric shape that summarizes a seed split in half. Chosen by the commission for its strong visual and conceptual impact, “Dikatomi” has three turns of LED strips on the base connected to the twilight of the public lighting so it will “light up” in the evening with the street lamps of the street.
