Art, in Scarabello’s scratches the vitality of a restless painting

A challenge to the obviousness of the news through the old, ever young, medium of painting, is that of Alessandro Scarabello. The Roman painter, 45 years old, has set up his eighth solo exhibition at The Gallery Apart (until 26 June, via Francesco Negri 43; tel.06 6880 9863). At Ostiense, under the title of Restless picturethe artist has created a path of only paintings that start from the monochrome Billboard and, following the slow movement of the compact drawings, alternating with the accelerated movement of a gestural painting that becomes scratching, he sees larval imaginaries of an estranged figurativeness re-emerge.

A descent into color

A sense of threat but also of exaltation accompanies the visitor in the descent into the depths of color which, on the floor below the gallery of Armando Porcari and Fabrizio Del Signore, finds its peak. The acid yellows and red ocher of the preparation dominate, resurfacing as a mural memory of the ancient.

The framework

The movement of Pan, in oil and from 2024, like most of the dozen canvases, appears to be the guiding painting of the exhibition. The step of the divinity, which remembers Those who go Of Umberto Boccioni, it is half a stride in the opposite direction compared to the direction of travel of pictorial writing. A painting literally “without rest” which, not only in Scarabello, like a karst movement has continued to fuel Italian art for many years.
