Kiev began conscripting prisoners to make up for the lack of personnel on the battlefield. All convicts who enlist have the chance to regain their freedom, as long as they continue to fight until the war with Russia ends

A Ukrainian drone attack on the districts of Yeisk, Seversk and Temryuksulla, in the Russian city of Krasnodar, caused four injuries during the night between Thursday and Friday. Russian air defense systems shot down 114 drones. The Russian Defense Ministry reported this in a statement.

“Last night the Kiev regime’s attempt to carry out a terrorist attack using maritime and aerial drones against targets located on the territory of the Russian Federation was foiled.”

Seventy drones were intercepted in Crimea and the Black Sea, other drones in the Krasnodar Territory and a drone in the Volgograd region. “In the northwestern part of the Black Sea, naval aviation of the Russian Black Sea Fleet destroyed six maritime drones of the Ukrainian Navy,”

During the night, Ukrainian air defense units destroyed four guided missiles Kh-59/Kh-69 launched by Russian strategic bombers, Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram.

Kiev conscripts prisoners due to lack of personnel

In an effort to find new recruits, the Ukrainian army began to conscript prisoners and already approx three thousand prisoners enlisted. Provided they resist to the end, the prisoners will be granted conditional release at the end of the war.

Ukraine has had difficulty recruiting enough soldiers, especially because its population of 38 million pales in comparison to Russia’s 144 million. The Ukrainian front suffered heavy losses and those who survived are in the minority and exhausted.

Moscow destroys Ukrainian cities and villages

Russia accelerated the destruction of frontline Ukrainian cities in 2024, reaching a scale never seen before in the war, using glide bombs and an expanding network of airstrips. The Associated Press reports this after analyzing drone footage, satellite images, Ukrainian documents and Russian photos.

The results are visible in the intensity of recent Russian attacks. It took Russia a year to destroy Bakhmut, where the bombs were first used. This was followed by the destruction of Avdiivka, which took months.

Then they were enough weeks to do the same in Vovchansk and Khasiv Yar, according to images analyzed by the AP that show the smoking ruins of both cities.
