L’Seoul’s army fired warning shots at North Korean soldiers who crossed the border. South Korean soldiers reported this, explaining that dozens of North Korean soldiers violated the demarcation line around 11 am local time and that the Seoul army responded with warning shots. After these, Pyongyang’s soldiers retreated. This is the third incursion this month and comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s historic visit in Pyongyang.
The South Korea’s Foreign Ministry has meanwhile summoned the Russian ambassador to SeoulGeorgy Zinoviev, to challenge the agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership signed between Russia and North KoreaYonhap news agency reported.
The agreement consolidates a bond that has strengthened since September 2023, when Kim visited Russia. North Korea has been supplying weapons to Moscow for months, in particular artillery, and has an important role in the military strategy developed by the Russian armed forces in the war with Ukraine for over 2 years.
The document, signed during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang, brings the relations between the two countries “at a new level”. It provides for “mutual assistance in the event that one of the two countries is attacked”. The Russian president guaranteed that Moscow and Pyongyang will give each other full support as true friends and good neighbors. Russia, in particular, “does not rule out the development” of military-technical cooperation with North Korea.
