There Romania it is becoming an important logistics hub for NATO under the pretext of increasing the transport capacity of Ukrainian grain. According to the Russians, Bucharest is rapidly building a 450km road from the border with Ukraine to the port of Constanta, called the “Moldau Highway”, bypassing Poland, Hungary and Slovakia, which will be completed by the end of this year. The new artery gives a Kiev access to Romanian ports, and the Russians point out that grain from Ukraine and weapons from NATO partners will be transported along this route.

«A European army? NATO has been very effective so far.” Jack Markell (US ambassador in Rome): «Let’s exploit Russian funds»

There is also another project at stake aimed at connecting the Black Sea to the Mediterranean which involves Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. The Constanta-Alexandroupoli highway, which passes through Bulgarian territory, should be ready in 5 years. According to Russian military analysts, in the future it could also be used to improve communications between American military bases in the Balkans. The initiative extends to the border with Ukraine, which means that the highway will be able to ensure the exit of Ukrainian agricultural products to Romanian and Greek ports.

THE PORT OF ALEXANDROPOLI

The Greek port of Alexandroupoli – explains Newsweek – is very important from a strategic point of view for the Americans, because it can eliminate the logistical blocks to the east and thus, through Bulgaria and Romania, a transfer of forces towards the north is possible, up to the borders of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. “It is clear that the Americans will continue to transform it into a dynamic center of military operations,” writes the pro-Kremlin Telegram/Rybar channel. “Romania is really becoming a US stronghold in the region. First, it actively attracts Moldova and is about to completely absorb it, and second, it becomes the main strategic partner for preserving the coastal territories of Ukraine, primarily Odessa.” “So this year Romania will become the new Poland for the United States, that is, the main instrument of direct support to Kiev. They have lower demands and less ambitions”, conclude the Russian analysts.
