A marriage that the spouses and guests will hardly forget. During dinner, in the city of Cuernavacain Mexico, 100 people were victims of food poisoning. Eighty of them were rushed to a Red Cross hospital due to a strong bacterial infection.

Among them there was Aranza Rodríguez who told the Mexican newspaper Proceso about those moments of panic. As testified by the guest, the woman was a guest of the groom, Fernando, whose wedding party began around 4pm with dinner set for 6pm. Aranza recalled having arrived between 8pm and 9pm and having noticed that many of the guests were experiencing “serious symptoms”, including headaches, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea.

Moments of panic

Despite the disturbing scene, the woman didn’t pay much attention to those revealing clues, deciding to eat her meal anyway, just as the first ambulances began to arrive. Although she wasn’t sure which of the dishes made her sick, the guest said that i wild mushrooms they had the aftertaste of a “very strong chemical substance.”

Footage circulated on social media showed the frantic moment as paramedics, staff and attendees who had not fallen ill provided care to the intoxicated guests. In one video, two women are seen bent over a chair: they had just vomited. Another clip showed several guests lying on hospital beds hooked up to IVs.

The menu

An image of the menu revealed that guests were served a starter of wild mushrooms with goats cheese and tomato coulis and a beetroot carpaccio with mango and pico de gallo.

The starter included a cream of dried tomatoes and crispy goat’s cheese with chives and a dried cream of pistachios and pears. The main course option was chicken breast stuffed with spinach, tarragon, sweet potato puree and winter asparagus.

The second choice was a breaded beef fillet with whiskey and almond sauce, vegetable skewer on a bed of potatoes. For dessert, the couple’s friends were served a rose of puff pastry and apples, ice cream, chocolate cheesecake and walnuts.

Within a few hours, all the victims of the dramatic food poisoning were discharged. Now, explains the Mexican newspaper, the authorities are investigating the catering Grupo Paraíso, hired for the wedding party.
