Loan with corpse

Erika de Souza Vieria Nunes showed up at the bank counter with a 68-year-old man, Paulo Roberto Braga, who was already dead when the two entered the bank. The woman, who declared herself to be the man’s niece and caregiver, attempted to hold the corpse’s head straight the entire time, trying to complete the paperwork for the 17,000 reals loan after the man had been the one to virtually request the money. She assured that the man was still alive when the two arrived at the bank, but the doctors who examined the body believe that the death occurred at least two hours earlier.

The video at the counter

Bank employees told the police that they were concerned about the condition of the man, terribly pale and emaciated, and that they called emergency services, who then declared his death. In the video you can see the woman insisting on her uncle to sign the papers and guiding his hands to try to sign. “Uncle you have to sign. The gentleman must hold his pen tight and sign here”, she says in front of the bank employees, astonished by the scene. The police say they have already requested the definitive arrest of the accused. “He tried to pretend that he was the one who signed,” explained Commissioner Fabio Luz, responsible for the investigations. We are now looking for possible accomplices. She told the officers that every day she took care of her uncle, who was very ill. And investigators are trying to understand whether Nunes is really a relative of the man.
