New CV90s for Denmark

According to reports from the Danish press, the Copenhagen Government is close to ordering a new batch of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) produced by BAE Systems Hägglunds.

The order would be quite substantial and would concern the purchase of 115 CV90s, with a good approximation CV9035 Mk 4, the most advanced version of the combat vehicle of Swedish origin.

The program worth approximately 1 billion euros provides that the new vehicles should be delivered starting from 2025 with completion of the supply in 2029; the contract will also include long-term technical support and assistance including spare parts.

The Royal Danish Army has been a user of the CV9035DK for some time, of which it has 45 examples, all delivered between 2007 and 2008; of these IFVs, 43 will undergo a substantial mid-life modernization program worth approximately €375 million managed by BAE Systems Hägglunds under a contract awarded last March, at the end of which the CV9035DKs will be equipped with a new D-series turret that brings improvements in ergonomics, survivability and combat operation.

The new turret provides CV9035DK crews with improved protection and amplified combat efficiency through the latest generation of sensors, artificial intelligence and augmented reality software, increasing the IFV’s multi-domain capabilities on the battlefield.

Furthermore, the new D series turret allows the installation of launchers for anti-tank missiles of various types, increasing the overall combat capacity of the vehicle which also receives the Iron Fist active protection system (APS) and new tracks in composite material which allow to reduce the overall weight and to reduce vibrations as well as the acoustic footprint of the CV90.
