Luca Guastella, a resident of Fino Mornasco, in the province of Como, died at just 28 years old. He was the victim of a fatal motorcycle accident while riding his motorbike on Provincial Road 9, on Lake Valvestino in the Gargnano area: on Sunday shortly before 12, he lost control of the vehicle and hit his brother Alessandro’s two-wheeler, ending up ricocheting on the asphalt and falling into a ravine. His cousin was also with them: the family members witnessed the tragedy helplessly.
The body was recovered by helicopter
The body was recovered not without difficulty with the help of the helicopter rescue service that took off from Brescia: the operations also involved the technicians of the Valsabbia Alpine Rescue who lowered themselves into the slope with a winch. His brother, 31, was also injured in the crash: he broke his collarbone but still tried to help his brother. He was transferred to Gavardo hospital (and admitted under yellow code) by an ambulance from the ANC Valle del Chiese.
The road remained closed for a long time to allow rescue and safety operations: the Fire Brigade and the Local Police were also on site, who were entrusted with the investigations. Luca Guastella was on a trip to Lake Garda with his brother and cousin: a great two-wheel enthusiast, he never missed the opportunity to organize suggestive trips and it seems it wasn’t the first time he tackled the roads of the upper lake, including Valvestino.

The body remains at the disposal of the judicial authorities who could order further investigations. On the basis of the investigations, still ongoing, the Prosecutor’s Office could decide to open a case for road homicide, a practice in cases like these. Luca Guastella worked in Switzerland for a company specialized in the production of computer components: a volunteer for the Red Cross of San Fermo della Battaglia, he was very active in the life of his town.
