From 1 July 2025, the incentives for the purchase of gas boilers they will come abolished. This decision was made as part of the Energy Efficiency of Buildings Directive, also known as Green Houses DirectiveThe European Union aims to promote greener solutions and efficient, such as heat pumps, capable of heating and cooling rooms as well as providing domestic hot water.
The end of incentives for natural gas boilers
The end of incentives is only the first step. From 2040, in fact, theinstallation of new gas boilers will be completely prohibited. This change means that anyone considering purchasing a gas boiler today must reflect not only on the initial costbut also how this decision will affect your heating system in the long run. It is also important to consider the future availability of spare parts in case of faults.
The European Commission is already working to translate this directive into norme concrete. Recently, a draft of the Guidelines for operators in the sector, which establishes that the incentives available through Bonus Casa, Ecobonus and SuperBonus will expire on January 1, 2025. While the prohibition on incentives is clear, there are some significant exceptions.
The crux is the fuel type used to power boilers. Gas boilers they will not receive incentives if the local network mainly provides natural gas. If the network provides renewable fuelshowever, like biogas, and these represent at least the 51% of the supplythen buying a boiler could still benefit from incentives.
A question of energy
In practice, theincentive it won’t depend so much on the type of boilerbut from energy source that uses. This approach could create confusion among consumers, who will have to carefully inform themselves about the gas origin in their area.
