Yellow will be the color that will paint Piazzetta Bagnasco on Thursday 4 July, at 6 pm, thanks to a special guest like Giuseppina Torregrossa, ready to give you an afternoon of true suspense through a real cold case, a story of strong passions, where the past shapes the present and love can heal all wounds.

“Stivali di velluto”, her latest novel that will be presented, third appointment of I Love Libri, the series of meetings of “I Love Sicilia” with authors of contemporary Italian literature, together with whom their latest literary efforts will become the occasion to tell slices of lives with often very bright colors. The author will be in conversation with Camillo Scaduto.

The event is part of the 2024 season program proposed by the association “Piazzetta Bagnasco” which is animating one of the city’s social places by offering opportunities for meetings between the many actors of the territory, in synergy with the world of business, academia, art and the third sector. A program created in collaboration with the Modus Vivendi bookshop and I Love Sicilia and with Cappadonia Gelati and Liberto Motisi fiori as sponsors.

The book. Palermo, 1977. The director of a peripheral post office is found dead, in a pool of blood, in his office. There is no trace of the murder weapon, but ten million lire are missing from the safe, so the investigation is shelved: a robbery ended in murder, a folder among many crammed into the shelves of the Mobile. Until that case, by a strange twist of fate, ends up on the desk of Giulia Vella, a young inspector and profiler who must identify the culprit, almost fifty years later. She arrives from Milan and brings with her secrets that she has never faced and with which she will be forced to deal, in an almost unreal Palermo, where the past shapes the present. It will be the investigations that will make Giulia meet the deepest part of herself, placing her in front of a warm humanity that is refractory to any label. Thus, little by little, the inspector gets to know Sicily, with its charm and its contradictions, and the Sicilians, so different from her but capable – like her colleague Cuor contento – of reading her insides, making her feel welcomed even far from home. Palermo vibrates between the pages of this story, and from a setting it becomes the protagonist, revealing itself as a languid and irresistible city, with its gaze turned towards the future but its roots firmly planted in the soil of ancient traditions. A place where only love can heal all wounds and tell us who we really are.

The author. Giuseppina Torregrossa lives between Rome and Palermo, has three children and a dog. Her first novel is L’assaggiatrice (2007), followed by Il conto delle minne (2009), Manna and honey, iron and fire (2011), Panza e prisenza (2013) and La Miscela segreta di casa Olivares (2014). For Rizzoli she published Il figlio maschio (2015), available in BUR.
