Lorenzo Basco, the Cussino jumper born in 2000, won the long jump competition at the Piacenza Summer Meeting with a remarkable 7.08 m and, above all, a series of jumps all over 7 meters. This confirms the excellent performance obtained at the National University Championships in May in Isernia, where Lorenzo placed fourth, just three centimeters from the podium, with a leap of 7.30 m, his new personal best and the second best provincial performance of all time, after Antonio Boldrini’s 7.33 and equaling Claudio Lorenzetto’s 7.30 (holder of a 7.46, however, done with the Virtus Bologna jersey). Basco, a student at the University of Ferrara in the master’s degree course in foreign languages and literature, is trained by coach Gianfranco Parigi; in this part of the season he has reached his optimal state of form, now frequently exceeding the 7-meter barrier, but he still has to find the right balance in the race run-ups, given that in the best jumps made so far he has always left a few centimeters of margin on the take-off platform and this shows that he can be worth even higher measures, perhaps even around 7.50 m.

Lorenzo has also proven to be an excellent sprinter, given his performances in the 100 m, with a personal best of 11.19 achieved in 2022 and coming close last May with 11.22 in Modena. At the last Ferrarameeting he ran the 100 m, stopping the time at 11.35.
