MESAGNE – A very serious road accident occurred late today, Wednesday 27 June, on the provincial road 69 that connects Mesagne to Torre Santa Susanna, the same road where the fiancés Matteo Buccoliero, a 20-year-old from Sava (Taranto) and Matilde Chionna, a 17-year-old from Latiano, a volleyball player, died four months ago.

Unfortunately, this accident also resulted in one death: a woman, Luisa Calò, 66 years old from Erchie, lost her life instantly and three people were injured. Among these is a 7-year-old girl who was taken under code red to the emergency room of the Perrino hospital in Brindisi but her life is not in danger. In addition to the 118 health workers, there were also firefighters, officers from the Mesagne police station, the manager Giuseppe Massaro himself and colleagues from the traffic police. The road was closed.

The cars involved are a Fiat 500 in which a woman was traveling and a Renault Scenic with four people on board: two women, the child and a man, all belonging to the same family unit. A BMW was also involved. It was apparently a head-on collision that occurred during an overtaking maneuver but everything is being reconstructed. The deceased woman was sitting in the back seat of the Scenic, at the wheel there was another woman who was seriously injured, she was extracted by the firefighters. The accident occurred on the outskirts of Mesagne at the height of the Salento Dog dog training center. The body of the 66-year-old was taken to the mortuary of the Mesagne cemetery awaiting the magistrate’s authorization to return them to the family. All three vehicles were seized and taken to the judicial warehouse of the Tarantini company. The road was reopened around 10:30 p.m.
