Maiori, beach seizure: mayor Capone tends to clarify things and takes it out on the press

With a post published on his personal page, the mayor of Maiori Antonio Caponeclarifies some aspects related to the seizure of the portion of the beach near the tourist port which has raised quite a bit of controversy on social media. What was worrying were the health risks highlighted by the newspapers (the real ones). The mayor begins by taking it out on the press (especially us) accused of speculation (we did nothing but publish his own ordinance) and on those who don’t love Maiori.

«As often happens with events related to our beach, the beating heart of our tourist economy, speculation on the part of some press outlets and those who don’t like Maiori is the order of the day» writes the mayor who then goes on to the question:

«I think it is appropriate to clarify things by starting by specifying that the area subject to the seizure ordered by the judicial authority is not intended for bathing activities but rather for the dry hauling of residents’ boats during the winter period. Given the situation as the Municipal Administration, having taken note of the results of the bacteriological investigations on the samples of material taken from the seized section, we decided, as a precaution, to extend the ban also to the adjacent free beach where tomorrow (today for those reading ed.) the samples will be taken.”

«In the event that we were to ascertain the extent of the problem in this section too, we will strengthen the reclamation interventions in order to restore full usability of the beach to the community as soon as possible according to the intended uses and to safeguard the public safety of our fellow citizens and our guests» concludes Capone.
