Tragedy a Montemaranoin the province of Avellino. An eight-year-old boy lost his life while playing in the courtyard of his home. The death, which occurred on the evening of Wednesday 26 June, around 8pm, was caused by the fall of a iron table with which the child was playing, which came loose from the fastening and crushed him without giving him a chance.
Domenico, the only child of a couple who lives in the rural district of Macchia del Monte, was about to go with his parents to the patronal festival taking place in a nearby hamlet.
The rescue
The 118 paramedics intervened on the spot. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the paramedics could do nothing but confirm his death.
The investigations
Investigations were started by the police who intervened at the scene of the tragedy. The child’s funeral will be held on Friday at 10am in Montemarano, a shocked community. The mayor, Beniamino Palmieri, proclaimed the city’s mourning: «We are experiencing a tragedy that leaves us speechless and throws us into a state of deep pain and sincere emotion. We all have the duty to mourn this child who passed away so soon, we all have the duty to rally around his family, because this mourning belongs to all of Montemarano.”
