On Tuesday, 25 June 2024, a violent tornado hit the province of Rovigo, causing considerable damage and inconvenience to the territory and the population. The bad weather of the last few hours, however, did not spare our province, with the area of Castelfranco Veneto which was hit by a strong storm. The heavy rain caused the Avenale river to overflow, causing in the first place the flooding of streets, underpasses and basements.
“A state of emergency has been declared following the bad weather that is hitting Veneto in recent days and the resulting damage” declared the president of Veneto, Luca Zaia.
Storm in Castelfranco, flooded streets and basements
After the tornado that hit Rovigo and part of the province on Tuesday morning, 25 June 2024, with over 210 rescue interventions requested from the fire brigade operations room, in the evening a new front of bad weather in Castelfranco Veneto with the flooding of the ‘Avenale.
In particular, there were over 140 requests for help to the 115 operations room in Treviso due to the violent storm which particularly affected Castelfranco Veneto with the flooding of the river in the city center.
As reported by the Facebook page “Meteo Bassano e Pedemontana del Grappa”, they fell around midnight 150 millimeters of rain in Castelfranco Veneto.
In the province affected by the bad weather, the Municipalities of Resana, Riese, Godego Castle. Interventions especially for flooded roads and underpasses, garages and flooded basements, unsafe trees, removal of obstacles. The fire brigade’s rescue system was strengthened by keeping some of the night shift staff on duty.
State of emergency
“After the storm in Asiago and yesterday’s whirlwind in Rovigo I had the declaration prepared for the state of emergency regional, following the bad weather that is hitting the Veneto in recent days and the consequent damage. Added to this already critical situation is the flooding of the Avenale which late yesterday evening, due to the enormous amount of water that fell in the space of just a few hours, flooded the town of Castelfranco Veneto, in the Treviso area”.
Thus the President of Veneto Luca Zaia announced the statement of state of emergency formalized by the Veneto Region through the DPCR n. 58 of 25 June 2024.
“I remind all citizens and businesses affected to collect the documentary materials that will be useful for the purposes of recognizing the damage and consequent recognition of any compensation” concludes Zaia.
The tornado in Rovigo
TO RovigoHowever, the firefighters’ interventions continued throughout the night and continue today, especially to drain the rooms that remained flooded after yesterday’s tornado, which affected the capital of Rodigino. The rescue device was reinforced by personnel and vehicles from neighboring commands and the shifts were partially doubled.

In general, the bad weather created quite a few problems also in Vicenza: about twenty interventions since Tuesday afternoon due to drying up, water damage, unsafe trees, small landslides and landslides in Marostica, Bassano del Grappa, Mussolente, Cartigliano, Roana, Conco, Rossano Veneto.
In the province of Venicefinally, there were about ten interventions by the firefighters for years of water and dangerous trees in the capital, Mestre and Mira.
