More flames in Rome, where a warehouse caught fire in the San Basilio area during the night. The huge fire generated an imposing column of black smoke which continued to dominate various areas of the city until the early hours of the morning of Wednesday 26 June. The firefighters were on site, busy for hours putting out the flames that destroyed the industrial building on the outskirts of Rome, near the ring road. This is yet another fire that broke out in the space of a few days in the capital, which is dealing with a real fire emergency.

The flames broke out between via di Scorticabove and via Pieve Torrina on the evening of Tuesday 25 June, behind the headquarters of the IV Municipality of Rome. The warehouse devastated by the flames belongs to the Barone Autotrasporti company.

The firefighters of the provincial command of Rome announced that at 11.15 pm, the operations room sent five Aps, four tankers and the Kilolitrica to via Scorticabove 154 “in order to put out the flames which involved the structure due to causes from to ascertain. The affected area is approximately 3 thousand square metres, the materials contained inside are of various kinds. There are no reported injured people.”

In a video on Facebook from the site of the fire, municipal councilor Fabrizio Montanini stated that “a trucking dealer, we are in an industrial area, it is not a residential area, a stone’s throw from the municipal headquarters. Explosions of heavy vehicles and cars catching fire can be heard.”

There have been many reports on social media and requests for information from citizens, worried about the dioxin emissions caused by the huge fire. At dawn on Wednesday the dense cloud of black smoke spread across the sky over various areas, from Tiburtino to Casal de Pazzi, up to Pietralata, and was visible from a good part of the city.

The fire in Tor Vergata

The fire in the warehouse followed by a few hours another fire that broke out in Rome, in a green area near the university of Tor Vergata. A large piece of land covered in brushwood between Viale della Sorbona, Via Columbia and Via Cambridge caught fire.

The flames made it necessary toevacuation from the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the University and related parking.
