Aldo Spinelli “can still pollute the evidence” and, above all, “can still corrupt”. With these reasons, the judge for preliminary investigations Paola Faggioni rejected, for the second time, the request of the elderly port entrepreneur with which, through the lawyers Sandro Vaccaro and Andrea Vernazza, he requested the replacement of the restriction with an interdiction. Spinelli has been under house arrest for corruption since May 7, as has the president of the Liguria Region Giovanni Toti. The prosecutors had given a negative opinion. Now the lawyers will appeal to the Review. According to the investigating judge, it is true that almost all the main witnesses in the matter have been heard, but some officials of the Region still remain to be heard. The judge then refers to recent episodes that emerged from the analysis of the cell phones seized on the day of the arrests. Lastly, as reported by the investigating judge, the meeting that Spinelli and Toti had, between 23 and 24 March, in the Principality of Monaco.

In the meantime, the Review hearing for the discussion of the appeal presented by Stefano Savi, Toti’s lawyer, has been set for 8 July. The decision of the judges, who will not go into the merits of the accusations but will only have to establish whether the precautionary needs of house arrest still exist for the governor, will arrive by July 15th.

Meanwhile Paolo Signorini, the former president of the port of Genoa who ended up in prison in the investigation and former CEO of Iren, was fired from the company “for objective just cause”. This was decided by the board of directors, “taking into account the investigation conducted by both the Remuneration and Appointments Committee and the Control, Risk and Sustainability Committee”.
