Castrol has launched the new generation 0W-20 low viscosity long life engine oil Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV, the first lubricant of its kind to simultaneously meet the latest low viscosity specifications from BMW, Mercedes- Benz and Volkswagen. The new product is suitable for petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles and is available to consumers and workshops in one and four liter packs.

Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV has achieved three official approvals widely considered to be among the most demanding in the industry: BMW Longlife-17 FE+, MB-Approval 229.72 (from Mercedes-Benz) and VW 508 00/509 00 (from Volkswagen). Furthermore, the new lubricant is approved for Porsche C20, meets the Ford specification WSS-M2C956-A1 and the requirements of OEMs who recommend the use of ACEA C5 or ACEA C6 0W-20 oils.

Rigorously tested for over 10,000 hours, Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV works to decrease friction, increase efficiency and reduce harmful emissions. The new product has been designed to address many of the challenges associated with modern engines. While smaller, more powerful units offer better fuel economy, the increased use of turbochargers can increase pressure within the engine: Castrol EDGE 0W-20 LL IV’s low-viscosity formulation minimizes the energy needed to the movement between the internal components of the engine.

Low speed pre-ignition (LSPI) events can also occur when smaller turbocharged engines are subjected to high loads at low rpm. The fuel-air mixture can ignite prematurely, causing excessive pressure in the cylinders, resulting in increased engine noise and, in extreme cases, catastrophic engine damage. CASTROL EDGE 0W-20 LL IV meets all LSPI testing requirements to significantly reduce the risk of such events occurring.

Ralf WobbenBrand and Product Specialist at Castrol Europe, comments: “Castrol EDGE is our most advanced range of engine oils, capable of meeting the most demanding specifications. Being at the forefront of such a dynamic industry is an example of Castrol’s iconic work with vehicle manufacturers in designing engine oils that unlock performance and increase efficiency. This low viscosity 0W-20 lubricant is a world first and demonstrates how we are applying the latest technological advances in a product suitable for numerous applications.”
