“To get to this result, what an effort…” The first speech as mayor by Alessio Mantellassi, the new mayor of Empoli elected in a coalition led by the Democratic Party, begins with a breath of breath and a joke.

“We all worked hard – continues Mantellassi – and we did it with great fairness and great respect for everyone and the city. Doing 8 months of electoral campaign was not a trivial thing like understanding where more could and should be done.”

After thanking all the members of the coalition, Mantellassi thanks the citizens. “I want to thank the citizens who supported me, the ballot showed the tenacity and mettle of our community – observes the new mayor – and let me give a big thank you to my city. For me it is a great honor to be the youngest mayor in the history of Empoli. I will be the mayor of all the people of Empoli.”

The ballot

The second round was a clear victory for Mantellassi. The candidate of the centre-left coalition won the run-off with just over 3 thousand votes behind the candidate of the left and the 5 Star Movement, Leonardo Masi. The Dem candidate collected 9589 votes against Masi’s 6481 with percentages of 59.67 against 40.33.

In the first round of elections Mantellassi had narrowly missed out on direct affirmation, stopping at 49.57 percent of the preferences made up of the votes of Pd (28.6%), Una storia empolese (12.6%), Avs, (3 .9%), This is Empoli (3.8%) and Action (1.7).

Masi, on the other hand, had stopped at 19.27 percent

The hypotheses of the city council

Mantellassi’s coalition will be able to count on 15 city councilors. Considering possible defections, renunciations and ‘promotions’ as councillors, we can only hypothesize the possible city council whose members will emerge from whoever has collected the greatest number of preferences.

Among those with the most votes in the elections of 8 and 9 June in the ranks of the coalition led by the new mayor we find Sara Fluvi (366), Gianni Bagnoli (351), Laura Mannucci (306), Marco Del Turco (281), for the Democratic Party, Viola Rovai (228), Raffaele Donati (223), Sofia Sostegni (180), Roberto Iallorenzi (176), Athos Bagnoli (151) and Simona Cioni (129).

In the Alessio Mantellassi mayoral list, the most voted were Iacopo Periti (170), Daniele Giannoni (106) and Cristina Marconi (104). Adolfo Bellucci (167), Giulia Terreni (150) and Maria Cira D’Antuono (107) were the most voted for Questa è Empoli.

Sixty-nine votes for Ayman Nencioni and 60 for Luca Ferrara among the Action candidates while in the Alleanza Verdi Sinistra the most voted was Maria Grazia Pasqualetti (57) followed by Marco Dicuio (45).

Among Masi’s coalition, the most voted were Sabrina Ciolli, Dario Torrigiani and Dario Mandriani with the first two who – unless they give up – should find a place on the council together with the candidate.

In the centre-right coalition instead – where the candidate Simone Campinoti will find space in the council – Francesca Peccianti, Claudia Ghezzi and Cosimo Carriero. Also on the council is Andrea Poggianti, candidate with a civic list in his name.
