LECCE – Adriana Poli Bortone is the new mayor of Lecce. With 50.7 percent the centre-right candidate got the better of Carlo Salvemini, the outgoing mayor (49.3 percent).
The difference between the two was 654 votes out of 47,439 cast, with a turnout of 60.76 percent. Poli Bortone obtained 23,827 and Salvemini 23,173. Compared to the first round, the centre-right representative lost 2,217 votes, while the candidate from the progressive area lost only 547.
The gap which in the first round was 2,217 votes has therefore narrowed to 654, still sufficient to guarantee Adriana Poli Bortone the victory which gives her the majority prize (20 seats) and the possibility of giving life to her third sent to lead the city.
