School: Sardinia receives the gold medal for the food education competition
The Sinnai Primary School of Sinnai (CA) wins the victory at
competition – Mò and Nini for the Planet – final stage of the project
Monini food education for schools, which has involved in 10 years

3rd F of the Sinnai Primary School of Sinnai (CA) the victory in the competition
– Mò and Nini for the Planet – final stage of the education project
food and environmental promoted by Monini in collaboration with La
Factory and the Gribaudo publishing house. A project to which Sardinia
he joined with conviction with thirty schools involved. To the winner
a 1,000 euro shopping voucher for educational materials and a supply of
Monini extra virgin olive oil.
The 2023-24 edition marks 10 years of the didactic-educational journey
“Monini per la Scuola”, which made it possible to raise awareness of a
correct relationship with food and a correct agro-environmental culture
approximately 900 thousand children and young people from institutions of all levels
along the Peninsula.
The theme, which has great value for a made in food company
Italy, like Monini, is highly topical and relevant
social: according to data from the Ministry of Health today there are over 3
millions of people suffer from eating disorders (there were
around 300 thousand 20 years ago) and in the last 3 years there have been more new cases
that doubled. It is mainly adolescents who are affected,
but unfortunately the onset is increasingly earlier. Extremely
the data on overweight and obesity are also worrying, with approximately
20% of children between 8 and 9 years old are overweight and almost 10% are obese according to
a recent study by “Okkio alla Salute”, the surveillance system
national coordinated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS).
“We believe that education, and in particular school, can
have a central role in promoting correct food culture
– commented Maria Flora Monini, who runs the company together
to his brother Zefferino Monini -. We are the country cradle of the Diet
Mediterranean and we have a duty to give back to the new generations
that joyful connection with food and the environment that we have lately
a little lost. This is why we are particularly proud of the
project, which we will continue with ever greater commitment_”.
