With the arrival of the summer, the appointment for athletes is renewed with the Cronoscalata della Rocca, the road running race scheduled for Sunday 30 June which, now in its 12th edition, combines the passion for sport with the discovery of symbolic places of the city.
An initiative, organized by the Monfalcone Athletics Amateur Sports Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Monfalcone, the FIDAL Provincial Committee and the Gorizia Race Judges Group, which consists of a regional time trial race, is valid as the sixth round of the 32nd Trophy Province of Gorizia 2024 and is included in the FIDAL regional calendar.
The route includes a journey of approximately 1,350 m, entirely on asphalt, starting from via Battisti at 5.00 pm and arriving at the Rocca, including a challenging final climb of approximately 250 meters which will put the athletes’ endurance to the test.
“This year too we welcome the Cronoscalata della Rocca which, in addition to representing an opportunity to bring racing enthusiasts together in Monfalcone, offers the opportunity to discover and rediscover our city, through a route that leads to the monument symbol of our history – notes the mayor of Monfalcone, Anna Maria Cisint.
Considering the numerous benefits that sport generates for the community, the Municipality of Monfalcone considers it particularly important to welcome and support the various initiatives organized by local sports associations, which constitute an important element in promoting the culture of movement and, at the same time, strengthening tourist attraction of the city.
We firmly believe that sport is a fundamental tool for promoting the spread of essential educational values, especially for the younger generations. Furthermore, sport enhances the territory from a social, economic and commercial point of view, through the numerous initiatives that we constantly organize, capable of attracting visitors and enthusiasts, promoting the psycho-physical well-being and health of citizens and encouraging them to adopt a lifestyle active”.
Participation in the 12th Cronoscalata della Rocca is reserved for FIDAL athletes of the A/J/P/S/SM/SF categories and for EPS or Runcard athletes, who will start one at a time at a distance of 30 seconds from each other, according to the order established by the competition judge.
“In recent years Monfalcone has rediscovered a sporting vocation which has allowed it to constantly attract athletes and sports enthusiasts of different disciplines to the city – comments the Sports councilor Fabio Banello.
The Cronoscalata della Rocca, even if it is characterized by a short route, every year manages to attract over 100 athletes to Monfalcone ready to challenge themselves until they reach the Rocca, facing the last 250 final meters with a climb that puts muscles and breath to the test even the most trained runners.
An appointment that will also be renewed in 2024 in full spirit of collaboration with the Atletica Monfalcone association which provides a valid contribution to the promotion of sports practice in the city”.
The awards ceremony will be held at 7.00 pm in Piazza della Repubblica, where awards will be given to the three most numerous clubs, the first three men and women overall, the first four classified in the P/S and 25 M/F categories, the first four classified of the 40-45 M/F categories, the first three classified in the 50-55 M/F categories and the first three classified in the over 60 M/F categories.
