The big day has arrived: that of the celebration of the Patron Saint. June 24th is the fateful date. The day in which, in the name of a tradition whose origins are lost in the mists of time, Oneglia celebrates its San Giovanni.
Ineja, today is fireworks day
The traditional religious liturgies at the Collegiate Basilica and, in the afternoon, the great religious procession through the streets of the historic centre, will act as the driving force for an evening which will have its apotheosis on the square of the former Aicardi ocean dock, at the root of the short pier of Oneglia, home to the secular celebrations of the Feast of San Giovanni.
The most anticipated of the events scheduled today is unquestionably the one with the fireworks, a moment dear to all the people of Imperia and the numerous guests of the city, awaited with joy, almost with trepidation, seen and appreciated by tens of thousands of people enraptured by the sparkle of that whirlwind of colors that only pyrotechnics can provide.
Staged by the award-winning Martarello company, the fireworks have always represented the homage that the San Giovanni and Tradizioni Onegliesi Committee offers to the city and its guests. The fireworks display represents a notable commitment, also and above all in economic terms, for the organizers, who, thanks also to the active contribution of the companies that have always been close to the Committee, will also this year guarantee an event that, in terms of entertainment, will certainly end to meet expectations.
While waiting for the sky of Oneglia to light up with the glow of the fireworks (scheduled time for the fireworks display is 11pm), there are many proposals that the volunteers of the San Giovanni Committee offer to visitors and guests of the Festival. The highly anticipated visit, around 7.30 pm, of Pietro and Annina, protagonists of a love story, fictionalized by Giovanni Donaudi from Imperia who in the mid-nineteenth century, influenced by Alessandro Manzoni’s publication, wanted to revive episodes similar to the ” short novel about The Betrothed”, setting it in the city of Porto Maurizio and its valleys and moving the hand of time to the 15th century. While waiting for the two “lovers” and while the aromas and flavors of what the talented chefs of Ineja Food are preparing to dish up within the party will begin to expand, it will be possible to visit the photo exhibition “places and moments of city life” fruit of the archive of the San Giovanni Committee or compete, in the sports space, with ancient and evocative handcrafted wooden games presented by the Ludo Ergo Sum association.
Then lots of good music and shows. To follow, at 8.45pm DJ Tex, with the group The Klub, young DJs, will present 360° music; followed at 9.15pm by the roller skating exhibition organized by asd Bastia sez. Sanremo. Then again, at 10 pm, the performance of the Salsa Creativa school “Tropical Beck’s” by maestro Riccardo Amoretti and, at 10.15 pm, the eagerly awaited funk and hip hop dance show of the “Fresh ‘n’ Clean Junior” school.
Last night the theater workshop “Interact” of which Luca D’Addino is director and director received great attention from the public present. More applause for the Note Libere string quartet orchestra present several times at the Festival this year. In the evening, the Latin musical entertainment proposed by DJ Francesco was appreciated, followed by the extraordinary musical “Caribe Boat” proposed on Latin and Caribbean rhythms by the Academia de Baile school of teacher C. Zanello.
