«Beaches full only on weekends and consumption collapse»

JESOLO – «City full only on weekends, collapse in consumption». The season is trying to take off but at the same time the alarm among traders is growing. The month of May was all in all positive thanks to the holidays linked to the German market, but since June the attendance I am collapse like the consumption, recording a decline that many indicate is well beyond the physiological threshold. In fact, the coast only fills up on weekends, with hotel occupancy peaks of 90% and then drops downwards already on Sunday evening. What is increasing, however, is the concern of operators also because, if July and August go well, it is not certain that they will be sufficient to recover what has been lost in recent weeks. Very worried Roberto Dal Cin, national president of Confapi tourism: «Even before the collapse in attendance we are recording a collapse in consumption – he explains – there are many factors: the German holidays celebrated well in advance this year, the terrible weather but also the economic crisis. In Germany there are problems and this also affects holidays. The same happens in Italy, salaries have been frozen for years: it is natural that there is attention to spending. It’s not enough to have the city full on weekends.”

The queues
Confirming that the stay is now mainly concentrated on weekends is the traffic yesterday, 22 June, which paralyzed incoming traffic until mid-afternoon. Several Atvo trips were missed, and there were inevitable protests from drivers now forced to drive in these conditions almost every weekend. Experiments were carried out yesterday in Jesolo Paese, blocking traffic on some side streets to allow transit only to residents who have proven it works. «Yesterday the city was blocked – thunders Antonio Lunardelli, spokesperson for the 5 Star Movement – but those who govern always focus on the motorway of the sea. Citizens must demand the creation of effective local roads.” Mayor Christofer De Zotti reiterated that, in addition to the sea route, complementary works will also be carried out, explaining how yesterday’s experimentation gave positive indications. «The season is starting, he replies, attendances are good these days, in the last few weeks the weather hasn’t helped us but we’re finally taking off. There will be a decline at the end of the month, then it will be sold out or almost sold out in July and August. The quality of the sea? Excellent, there are no emergencies.” The indications also provided by Aja are good, while from July guests are also expected to arrive from Northern Europe, and in recent days there are numerous ones coming from Eastern Europe. The data produced by the H-Benchmark system certifies a growth of over 5% in employment in the last two weeks with bookings growing until the end of August. The average duration of bookings is also growing, precisely by +0.3 days for all categories of facilities.

Forecasts

“In July and August there will be an average occupancy of 90% – says the president of The Hague, Pierfrancesco Contarini – we will probably repeat the result of 2023, if the seasonal tail end is good perhaps we will surpass it”.
