To reduce the price of the Vision Pro you will need an iPhone

The Vison Pro like Apple Watch: connected and dependent on iPhone. This would be one of the solutions that Apple is thinking of to reduce the cost of the augmented and virtual reality viewer.

This hypothesis is reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in the latest issue of his newsletter, explaining that Apple is working on a “low cost” version of the AR/VR viewer, a variant that we will see in the future and for which Apple is looking to reduce costs by intervening on some components.

To save money, some tasks could be delegated to the iPhone or Mac. There is already a prototype, code-named, in Cupertino N107a product with a new, lighter design, with technical specifications that could allow to reduce production and marketing costs, a device that could be called “Apple Vision” instead of “Apple Vision Pro”, to distinguish it from the current lighter product costly.

Among the ideas on which Apple is working to reduce costs, the elimination of the EyeSight functionality, the lens system that allows you to see the eyes of users wearing the headset, but also the decrease in the overall quality of the 4K micro-OLED panels (much more than what any other headset on the market currently offers).

The price that Apple would have foreseen for the “economic” variant of the viewer is between $1500 and $2000; according to Gurman, Apple intends to offer it on the market by 2025 but it remains to be seen whether the reduced price will serve to arouse greater interest among buyers.

Gurman recalls that even for the iPhone they Apple Watch it took time for them to find favor with customers, thanks to improvements such as the App Store, but also the spread of fast connections on the market and other factors that first made the telephone, and later also the Apple Watch, interesting as a fitness device and for tracking health-related parameters.

In addition to the “low cost” headset, Apple is also working on a future variant of the Pro model, codenamed N109; the latter expected with a faster processor and improvements to the external cameras; There is also a reduction in the overall weight (it is rumored that Apple aims to eliminate at least a third of the weight, i.e. from around 650 grams of Vision Pro to 430-450 grams for the new model), and other changes, with the arrival on the market is expected before the end of 2026.
