What happened between Stevo and Twente, the fans’ choreography collapses
The terrible accident occurred in the moments immediately before the start of the friendly match. The Twente fans decided to create an exceptional atmosphere, with impressive choreography and red smoke bombs. This is why they availed themselves of the use of a crane to hold not only a banner, but also blow-ups with logos and footballers from the past. Everyone was initially impressed by the curve of the small stadium, dressed to the nines, including the players. However, in a few seconds the amazement turned into horror, when the choreography has actually folded in on itselfdue to excessive weight.
Fans trapped under the choreography, several injured
The iron scaffolding that supported everything broke, falling right on top of the hundreds of fans positioned below. A terrible scene that triggered panic. Even the players started running towards the corner to try to help the supporters and help the staff. An almost apocalyptic situation that could have had much worse consequences. Around a dozen people were injured, some of them seriously, but none of them were in danger of their lives. While the friendly match was cancelled, there was sudden help on the pitch, with the arrival of the air ambulance.

According to the first information provided by Twente, all the injured would be conscious: “When the players from STEVO and FC Twente arrived, the banner with the scaffolding fell on the fans who were behind one of the goals. We are in close contact with the supporters who organized the atmospheric campaign, with STEVO and the authorities. Together we examine how this could have happened. For now all attention is focused on the injured fans and other people directly involved.”
Anass Salah-Eddine, player of FC Twente, told the local press of his and his colleagues’ initial disbelief: “At first we thought it was planned in the choreography, but then we understoodor. We immediately ran to the scene, and heard people’s screams. The situation was very unclear“. Some of the supporters who remained unharmed said: “We are shaking. It’s a miracle we’re still here.”. The police have opened an investigation into the incident.
