A delegation from Coldiretti Ferrara composed of the president Federico Fugaroli and the director Alessandro Visotti, during the day of Thursday 20 June, was received by the prefect Massimo Marchesiello. A meeting aimed at illustrating to the Government representative for the Ferrara area the reasons in support of Coldirett national mobilizationthe. Mobilization aimed at countering the emerging problem of the massive presence of wild boars in the Italian and regional territory and which are also appearing in the province.

Coldiretti representatives underlined how the uncontrolled presence of wildlife, in particular wild boars, represents a matter of primary importance and urgency, not only for farms, but for the entire community. A note from Coldiretti highlighted that “the spread of these wild animals has caused considerable damage to agricultural cropsamounting to an estimated economic loss of 200 million euros per year on a national scale”. The note added that “it has been highlighted that the wild boar population has reached alarming figures, with over 2.3 million specimens throughout Italy , creating further concerns regarding the spread of African swine fever and additional costs for all pig farms to implement measures to prevent possible contact.”
For President Fugaroli “the proliferation of wild boars has become a critical issue that requires immediate interventions. The damage to agricultural crops is extensive, with fields devastated and crops destroyed. But in addition to the economic damage, there is a serious problem of public safety. Numerous road accidents, some of which are fatal, are caused by wild boars crossing urban and rural roads. This represents a constant threat to the entire community in many areas of Italy and Emilia-Romagna and we cannot avoid actions of solidarity and support. towards those territories, also in the sense of preventing any infestations in the Ferrara area problem must be resolved urgently not only for agricultural companies but also for the safety of the entire community.”
Director Visotti added that “we firmly believe that theadoption of the Extraordinary Plan for the management and containment of wildlife may represent the only response to the cry of alarm that has gone unheard for too long and that the last hesitations must be overcome to achieve a concrete result in terms of reducing the population of these ungulates. As always, Coldiretti is ready to collaborate also from a technical point of view to achieve an indispensable result as quickly as possible: reduce the number of wild boars that devastate our territory and our activities and build the conditions for targeted management to a more incisive faunal rebalancing also for other invasive species, such as nutria, which weigh on agricultural businesses and the environment”.
In thanking the prefect for the attention shown towards the issue and for what will be done to support the mobilization, to arrive at a solution that protects the safety of people, the work of farmers, breeders and the entire supply chain, Fugaroli and Visotti they concluded that “the mobilization will continue until you get the answers necessary by the institutions”.
