Trieste, 21 June – “The softball World Cup, which will be hosted by the Castions di Strada diamond, represents an extraordinary opportunity to make Friuli Venezia Giulia known on an international level. Our Region invests heavily in promoting sport to all levels both because it can guarantee great returns in terms of visibility but also because it is essential for maintaining good health, strengthening the sense of community and reaffirming those values that are crucial for forming better citizens”. This was stated today in Trieste by the governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia Massimiliano Fedriga during the presentation of the final phase of the XVII Softball World Cup scheduled at Castions di Strada from 15 to 20 July, organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation with the collaboration of the Italian baseball softball federation (Fibs) and the main sponsorship of “Io sono Friuli Venezia Giulia”. “The organizers must be thanked for choosing our region for this important event which is being held in Italy for the first time ever – underlined Fedriga -. Softball is a discipline practiced and followed in many areas of the planet. From one point From a promotional point of view, it is strategic to focus on global events like this.” During the press conference it was recalled that it is the fourth most popular sport in the world in terms of number of practitioners and that Friuli Venezia Giulia and Castions di Strada have been able to beat the competition from very prestigious places such as Dublin, Barcelona and Dallas. “For the regional administration it is important to support even the smaller centers of Friuli Venezia Giulia – added the governor -. We are certain that Castions di Strada will be able to best welcome the athletes and staff of the eight countries that will compete for the World”. Italy is in the same group as very strong teams such as Canada, China and the United States. The other group included Australia, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico and Japan, the latter among the favorites for the final title. The Italians will play their first match against China on Monday 15 July at 8.30 pm immediately after the opening ceremony. The organizational machine is working at full capacity to guarantee the perfect success of the tournament which will be followed live by prestigious international television networks. During the presentation it was also highlighted that 65% of the tickets already sold have been booked by fans of this discipline coming in particular from the United States, Australia, Japan and the Netherlands.
