Following the positive results achieved over these years, also for this summer season the Fire Brigade will guarantee water rescue in the Municipality of Lerici, a very relevant service for the protection of the community given the notable flow of tourists who, traditionally, frequents the coasts in the summer period.
The garrison will be active in the last weekend of June (29th and 30th), on all weekends in July and August, including the entire week of August, until 8th September, from 10am to 8pm, at the coast of Lerici, where the presence of two units of the Provincial Fire Brigade Command will guarantee a surveillance and aquatic rescue service along the coast. This, in summary, is the content of the agreement that the Prefect of La Spezia, Maria Luisa Inversini, Commander Maria Francesca Conti, and the mayor of the Municipality of Lerici, Leonardo Paoletti, have signed in recent days. In the summer of 2023, the staff carried out thirty interventions. The activity of the garrison – ready to intervene in synergy with the Port Authority of La Spezia – proved to be decisive on numerous occasions, from assistance to canoeists in difficulty to the rescue of people who had fallen on the rocks or who were feeling ill, from assistance to boats broken down due to accidents at sea.
The mayor of Lerici, Leonardo Paoletti, expressed “satisfaction and pride for the renewed agreement with the Fire Brigade of La Spezia for the aquatic control on the beaches and coastline of the municipality of Lerici. This service – he continues – is obviously not only useful for providing assistance to swimmers in the period of maximum attendance in the area, but also for discouraging any possible incorrect behaviour: the presence of a State body in the area is a reassuring and dissuasive signal”.
