Liberty Lines announces that in the early afternoon of yesterday, the ship Cristina Mentered the port of Trapani, after a journey that began 6 days and 1,800 miles. The ship, which comes from the Spanish town of Vigo (overlooking the Atlantic Ocean), after successfully completing all sea trials, it was delivered to the owner who arranged for its immediate transfer to Italy with the aim of putting it on line as soon as possible.
Fast hybrid ship
Cristina M is an innovative fast hybrid ship, the second of its kind in the world (after her sister “Vittorio Morace”), capable of sailing in totally electric mode at a speed of 10 knots for about 30 minutes near the coast and then recharging the batteries during navigation in the open sea when the unit is driven by thermal engines and reaches speeds above 30 knots.
Thus, just 21 days after the sister ship “Vittorio Morace”, the transfer of the second unit of the 9 commissioned to the Spanish shipyard Astilleros Armon is completed with the aim of renewing a significant part of the Liberty Lines fleet by the summer of the year 2026.
Having also planned to receive the third fast hybrid unit over the next few weeks, the Company is therefore awaiting the final documentation that will allow it to use the new ships online between Sicily and the islands.
