Flood in Valle d’Aosta and Piedmont, the newborn saved from the flood

The damage offlood in Valle d’Aosta and Piedmont amount to millions of euros. In Cogne, the flooding of the Grand Eyvia torrent has submerged part of the camper area square, but the town is isolated. Among the people saved there is a Belgian family whose story is told by the newspaper La Stampa starting from the call for help that arrived at the switchboard of the single emergency number around one in the morning. A woman who speaks English and says she only has water and vegetation around her. Her husband is still trapped in the car and she has her 5-month-old daughter in her arms.

The Belgian family was stuck on an islet in the middle of the Orco torrent and was surprised by the flood. The father, mother and child were located thanks to the GPS on the woman’s phone. Several teams of firefighters from the volunteer detachments of Chivasso and Montanaro set out. While a firefighter spoke to the woman on the phone, a team walked along the bank. The husband managed to get out of the cockpit of the off-road vehicle that was recovered the next morning further downstream. The Belgian family was rescued with a dinghy from the river bank to the islet. The rescue operations ended at 5 in the morning. The father and daughter spent a couple of hours in the emergency room of the Chivasso hospital.
