It was another very tough day on the fire front in Sardinia, nineteen in the space of a few hours, with very high temperatures especially in the heart of the island which certainly do not help the operations to contain and put out the flames and unfortunately cause the game of “cursed” arsonists. In some cases, once again, it was also necessary to use helicopters from the regional fleet but also from the national one. And the balance is, as always, dramatic.
The two largest fires in Macomer and Guasila. In the first case, the shutdown was coordinated by the staff of the Macomer forestry corps station, by the Bolotana patrol, assisted in turn by the personnel on board the helicopters coming from the Farcana and Anela forestry corps and environmental surveillance bases. The director of operations requested the sending of the Canadair aircraft coming from Olbia. A team from the Forestas Agency of Bolotana and one of the Macomer firefighters intervened. The operations to shut down the aircraft ended after a few hours. Another large fire in the Guasila countryside, the extinguishing was coordinated by the staff of the Senorbì forestry corps station who requested the dispatch of three light helicopters coming from Villasalto, one from Pula with the respective forestry corps personnel on board and the Superpuma helicopter coming from Alà Dei Sardi with an airborne team on board. A Canadair, previously involved in the Macomer fire, also operated on the fire. In addition to the Gauf of Cagliari, a Forestas team from Barumini and 3 teams of volunteers from the associations of Villanovafranca, Sant’Andrea Frius and Quartu Sant’Elena also took part.
