THE RESULTS OF SPEED

Reggio Emilia: Giulia Randi and Daniele Balestrazzi are the new Italian speed champions for the 2024 season.

At the gates of the last Olympic qualification testwhich will be staged in Budapest on the weekend and that together with Shanghai will decide the last participants in the Paris games, the best sprinters of the Italian panorama found themselves at Reggio Emilia to compete for the titles of champion and Italian champion 2024. After the titles awarded in bouldering and awaiting those that will be awarded in lead, speed is almost at the end of the national season and the level is higher than ever. 2023 saw Italy on the top step of the podium at the world championships, thanks to Matteo’s magnificent performance Zurloni and 2024 looks to be just as overwhelming. For the first time an athlete went down under the legendary five seconds and internationally the results have been excellent. Full speed ahead to Budapest!

In the women’s field, the Randi Colli duo did not disappoint themselves this time either. The two seeded teams pushed hard throughout the event, putting themselves in good shape for the race in Budapest. Although Beatrice Colli (GS Fiamme Oro) was the only one to dip under seven seconds in the race, an error eliminated her in the quarterfinals. Giulia Randi (CS Army) scores a 7.25 in the final and takes home the gold medal, prevailing over the very young Alessia Lugli (Equilibrium) who won the title of Italian vice champion. Sara Strocchi (Porcupine) wins the direct clash in the final with Agnese Fiorio (Arco Climbing) and concludes the list of medals. Beatrice goes out in the quarterfinals HillsAlice Marcelli (Ragni di Lecco), Arianna Mortar (Milanoclimbing) and Emma Campa (Rock Dreams).

In the men’s sector he is the eighteen year old Daniele Balestrazzi (Equilibrium) to impose himself on all the competition, winning his first title of absolute Italian champion. Behind him, the veteran born in ’94 Alessandro Boulos (Piaz Rock Rock Group) wins the silver medal. The final sees two big names compete in a direct clash of the highest level: Marco Rontini (CS Army), scores an excellent 5.37, which however is not enough against the world champion Matteo Zurloni (GS Fiamme Oro): 5.04 and bronze medal for him.
