Weather, summer takes hold and the heat arrives (but only until Friday)

Brianza. After a lot of rain, the sun finally comes out in the second half of June. “Summer is roaring”, say the experts at 3Bmeteo, and temperatures will skyrocket, especially in the centre-south where peaks close to 40 degrees will be reached. It will also be hot in the North, where the real protagonist will above all be the sultriness, while temperatures will remain below 35 degrees. A “spot” summer: from Friday, in fact, experts predict the return of thunderstorms, even of strong intensity. But let’s see the weather forecast for this week in detail.

THE AFRICAN ANTICYCLONE ARRIVES, PEAKS OF OVER 38-40°C IN THE CENTRAL-SOUTH SINCE HALF OF THE WEEK

“An intense African heat wave is now imminent in Italy, which will especially hit the Centre-South” – 3bmeteo.com meteorologist Edoardo Ferrara confirms this and explains – “day after day temperatures will constantly increase, with the heat peaking between Thursday and Saturday, when peaks of 38-40°C may be exceeded in the internal areas of the South and of Sicily and Sardinia. Peaks of over 36-38°C may also be recorded in the internal areas of the Centre, from Tuscany to Lazio, Marche, Abruzzo, up to almost 40°C in the Umbrian valleys. On the coasts it will be less hot, thanks to the mitigating action of the sea breezes, but at the price of greater humidity and therefore sultriness, which could still increase physical discomfort; inland, however, the heat is often scorching, therefore drier, but also more intense.

“The heat is also significantly increasing in the North but not as intense as in the Centre-South” – continues Ferrara of 3bmeteo.com – “The maximum temperatures will still be high, generally within 32-34°C, except for higher peaks in Emilia Romagna. Here the heat can be decidedly muggy at times, particularly in Valpadana and the Ligurian Riviera.”

HOT EVEN IN THE EVENING AND NIGHT HOURS

“Day after day, the accumulation of heat will also be felt in the evening and night hours, so much so that we will suffer even in the late evening, especially in large urban areas, where night-time cooling will be further hindered” – warns Ferrara – “Particularly from Thursday we may still have temperatures around 30-32°C around 8-10 pm (especially in the cities), while night-time minimums may not drop below 23-24°C, particularly in the cities and along the coastal sectors. The physiological increase in humidity in the evening/night hours could also favor an accentuation of sultriness and physical discomfort.”

SOME STRONG STORMS IN THE NORTH, MORE INCISIVE BREAK BY FRIDAY

“The northern regions will remain on the edge of the African anticyclonic dome, where infiltrations of cooler and more unstable Atlantic air could trigger some showers or thunderstorms substantially in the Alps and Piedmont. However, on Thursday and especially on Friday, the anticyclone should give way to the North, allowing the passage of storms that are more widespread this time and also of strong intensity, with the risk of hail and violent gusts of wind, together with a dampening of the heat wave. Following this, the great heat could progressively fade, at least in part, also in the Center and then in the South” – conclude from 3bmeteo.com
