A new, yet another, Israeli air raid on the al-Bureij refugee camp, in the center of the Gaza Strip, has caused the death of six Palestinians, including a newborn, and injured dozens. This was reported by the Palestinian agency Wafa, citing local sources. Tel Aviv warplanes targeted the al-Khatib family’s home in the refugee camp, killing four people, including a child, and wounding others. Another airstrike hit the an-Najjar family’s home in the refugee camp, killing two more people and wounding others.

This came as Israeli fighters and artillery blew up a number of residential buildings in the Al-Mughraqa area, north of the Nuseirat camp in the Central Strip. Meanwhile, other fighter planes from the Jewish state targeted the al-Mawasi area, north of Rafah, and a gathering of people in the Shuja’iya neighborhood, east of Gaza, resulting in the killing of two people and the wounding of others. According to the latest Palestinian estimates, the number of deaths at Israeli hands has risen to at least 37,337, with approximately 85,229 injured.

Ben-Gvir: “Tactical pauses in Gaza are unacceptable”

In this context, while the killings of Palestinian civilians continue, the far-right Israeli security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, defined the tactical pauses to allow the arrival of humanitarian aid proposed by the army as “delusional”: “He who decided on a ‘tactical truce’ for the purposes of a humanitarian transition, especially at a time when many of our soldiers are falling in battle, he is evil and a fool who should not continue in his position,” he attacks. “Unfortunately this move has not been presented to the government and is contrary to its decisions,” added the ultra-right minister.

A week of protests against the government begins today in Israel

Meanwhile, in Israel, groups contesting the government have announced weeks of demonstrations, starting today, to call for new elections by October 7. Already yesterday, street protests once again blocked some of Israel’s main roads. Today another demonstration is scheduled in front of the Knesset for 7 pm. “Our objective is clear”, said the head of the ‘Free in our Land’ movement, Eran Schwartz: “And it is to immediately return the mandate to the people and go to the polls before the anniversary of the failure represented by last October 7th”.

The accusation that the Israeli government has “repeatedly failed both in defending Israel’s security and in taking care of its citizens”. And to “put political survival before the country’s interest”, as “demonstrated by the failure to promote an agreement for the release of the hostages” held since 7 October 2023 in the Gaza Strip and “by the abandonment of the citizens of northern Israel” , targeted by Lebanese Hezbollah attacks. For another exponent of the movement, elections are the only way to “restore hope” to Israelis. He asks Netanyahu not to be afraid because “only a dictator would be afraid of his own people”.
