The Lazio is the first region of Italy to guarantee the technological device for free for theglycemic self-monitoring (SMBT) in favor of citizens affected by diabetes. A device that will be delivered to the home and will monitor the patient’s weekly blood sugar trend.
This is a real breakthrough for type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients, who require frequent self-monitoring.
The prescription of SMBT devices, with the related consumption, can be carried out exclusively by diabetologists and endocrinologist specialists.
The extension is foreseen by a determination of the director of the Health and Social and Health Integration Directorate of the Lazio Region, Andrea Urbaniupon proposal of the manager of the drugs and devices area, Marzia Mensurati.
«Lazio opens the doors of innovation to ensure a high and qualitative level of healthcare. We are proud to be the first Region in Italy to guarantee the technological device for instant glycemic self-monitoring free of charge to all patients suffering from diabetes, even the less serious ones. We are working hard to significantly improve the quality of life of diabetes patients. In fact, this measure is not isolated. Last December, we made Glucagon nasal spray free to children and adolescents suffering from type I diabetes mellitus. The only drug that, in the event of severe hypoglycemia, allows the patient’s blood sugar level to be re-established with a simple spray in the nose.
