The train of the Circumetnea Railway, which since 1898 has connected Catania with the towns of the lower foothills, yesterday completed its last day of activity for the Borgo – Paternò section of the Circumetnea railway, before its decommissioning.
From Monday, however, trains will no longer depart from Borgo station, for the nostalgic the service from Paternò to Randazzo will continue.
The train stops, thus allowing the subway work to proceed without obstacles.
The new metropolitan route, 11.5 kilometers long, will cross three municipalities: Misterbianco, Belpasso (with the hamlet of Piano Tavola) and Paternò. Five stations will be built: Gullotta (Misterbianco), Belpasso (Piano Tavola), Valcorrente (near the Etnapolis shopping center), Giaconia (in the Palazzolo area, in the Belpasso area, but crucial for Paternò) and Ardizzone (Paternò).
The Misterbianco-Paternò section represents the last section that completes the entire Catania metropolitan line, 30 kilometers long in total, connecting Paternò with Catania and its airport. In a subsequent phase, the entire line could extend along the Paternò-Adrano ridge for a further 15 kilometres, already partially equipped.

Replacement Services by Bus
To guarantee continuity of service between Paternò and Catania, replacement buses will be activated for trains originating or destination Paternò and Adrano. The timetables and routes of the replacement bus lines are available for download at the following link:

The current operating program for bus lines remains unchanged, thus ensuring that road transport services continue without changes or interruptions.
