Ilaria Salis has returned to Italy. Who is Ilaria Salis
A substitute teacher for literature in a middle school, Ilaria Salis was born in Milan but grew up in Monza. She graduated with honors from the University of Milan in Historical Sciences, in 2021, she obtained a master’s degree in Philology, literature and history of antiquity from the same university. She is an anti-fascist militant, at eighteen she participates in the foundation of a social center together with her school friends. A series of reports and complaints followed.
In February 2023 he is in Budapest for the celebration of the Day of Honor, a day in which neo-Nazis from all over Europe celebrate the German and Hungarian soldiers who died in 1945 during the siege of Budapest by the Red Army. Involved in some attacks against far-right militants, Salis was arrested together with two Germans by the Hungarian authorities on charges of having caused “injuries that could jeopardize the life” of three neo-Nazi militants, attacked the previous day.
The woman is also accused of belonging to a German criminal association known as Hammerbande, ‘Hammer Gang’, which aims to attack neo-Nazis, even physically. According to the prosecution, Salis participated in two violent episodes that occurred on 10 February 2023: the first in Gazdagréti square in which a man mistakenly mistaken for a right-wing extremist was attacked, the second against László Dudog, a far-right musician, the whose photos with a swollen face have circulated on the internet. Ilaria has always declared herself innocent, rejecting the offer of a plea bargain of 11 years in prison. For this reason she was held in custody in prison in Hungary.
In June 2023, the first of three different requests presented by his lawyers requesting the possibility of serving house arrest in Italy was rejected. In November 2023 Salis was sent to trial.
