DUTCH ARTZ WINS IN FRONT OF THORNLEY AND PRIVITERA

The 22-year-old Dutchman Huub Artz is the winner of the seventh stage of the Giro Next. The Wanty – ReUz – Technord athlete struck the right blow 2 kilometers from the finish line in Zocca and arrived alone at the finish, ahead of the Scot Callum Thornley (Trinity Racing) by 25″ and the Ligurian Samuele Privitera by 48″. (Hagens Berman Jayco), immediately off the podium was Alessandro Borgo (CTF Victorious) ahead of Alessandro Romele (Astana Qazaqstan Development Team) and Lorenzo Peschi (General Store – Essegibi – F.Lli Curia).

THE STAGE – After a fast start, around the twentieth kilometer of the race, five of them break away from the group: Noa Isidore (Decathlon AG2R La Belgio Development Team), Lorenzo Peschi (General Store – Essegibi – F.Lli Curia), Samuele Privitera (Hagens Berman Jayco), Luca Dreßler (Team Lotto Kern-Haus PSD Bank) and Callum Thornley (Trinity Racing ).

There have been several attempts to “hunt” the fugitives but the most convinced is that carried out by the trio composed of Alessandro Romele (Astana Qazaqstan Development Team), Alessandro Borgo (CTF Victorious) and Huub Artz (Wanty – ReUz – Technord) who, crossing the town of Canda, 60 kilometers after the start, reach the head of the race: thus a group of eight men was formed in the lead. At the same time, the pink jersey group was reported to be going very slowly with a delay of 4 minutes and 8 seconds.

Alessandro Romele (Astana Qazaqstan Development Team), Alessandro Borgo (CTF Victorious), Noa Isidore (Decathlon AG2R La World Development Team), Lorenzo Peschi (General Store – Essegibi – F.Lli Curia), Samuele Privitera (Hagens Berman Jayco), Luca Dreßler (Team Lotto Kern-Haus PSD Bank), Callum Thornley (Trinity Racing) and Huub Artz (Wanty – ReUz – Technord) pedal together and at the sign indicating 100 kilometers to the finish line in Zocca their advantage is more than 5’00”.

The plot does not change and the eight attackers of the day show up in Savignano sul Panaro with a 5’40” advantage over the pink jersey and L grouporenzo Peschi (General Store – Essegibi – F.Lli Curia) wins the Flying Finish Line ahead of Callum Thornley (Trinity Racing) and Noa Isidore (Decathlon AG2R La Difesa Development Team).

The approach of the final climb wakes up the group from its “torpor” which, led by the teams of the men in the ranking, approaches the escapees. When the road goes up Artz also decides to attack, Privitera chases him and then Thornley too. This leaves three to play for the stage but, once again, the Dutchman from Wanty attacks, creates the advantage in progression and then enjoys the triumph.

Behind the eight escapees of the day came José Ramón Muñiz of Petrolike, ninth at 2’26” from the winner then, to close the top ten of the day, Alessandro Pinarello VF Group – Bardiani CSF – Faizanè.

No change in the top positions of the general classification which still sees Widar in command with Torres 52″ distant and Rondel third at 58″. Tomorrow the Giro Next Gen will experience its final act with the 137 kilometers of Cesena – Forlimpopoli.
