The Forestry Carabinieri, as part of their institutional functions and thanks to the agreement with the Puglia Region, continue their commitment to fighting forest fires for the 2024 season.

With the Decree of the President of the Puglia Regional Council n. 260 of 7 June 2024, the high risk period for forest fires was established from 15 June to 30 September.

Forest Carabinieri: present throughout the Taranto area

The Forestry Carabinieri Units and the National Park Carabinieri Units, present throughout the territory, will be involved in fire prevention and suppression activities.

This includes targeted patrols, supervision of the application of preventive measures and compliance with prohibitions, such as lighting fires or burning plant residues, and surveillance with the help of advanced technologies.

Surveillance activity will be intensified in weather conditions favorable to the spread of fires and in areas of greater naturalistic value, such as the Alta Murgia and Gargano National Park, as well as in state and regional reserves.

The presence of Forest Carabinieri units in the Permanent Unified Operations Room (SOUP) of the Civil Protection of the Puglia Region will guarantee immediate and continuous communication on emergencies, the nature and evolution of fires, facilitating investigative activities to understand the causes and identify the responsible.

The data collected will be available to the Municipalities

The data on the areas affected by the fires, collected by the Forestry Carabinieri through inspections and advanced satellite technologies, will be made available to municipal administrations.

This will allow us to verify and update the “Register of forest stands affected by fire” and monitor the improper use of these areas, in accordance with the provisions of Law no. 353 of 2000.

The collaboration between the Puglia Region and the Forestry Carabinieri has been renewed to promote, educate and raise public awareness on the importance of environmental legality and the conservation of forestry heritage and biodiversity.

In this context, the collaboration of citizens in promptly reporting forest fires to the environmental emergency number 1515, active 24 hours a day throughout the national territory, is fundamental.
