The ethnomusicology meeting will begin this evening at 8.30 pm at the “Matilde di Canossa” municipal theater in Ciano. Inserted in the project “The path of the bearers of oral traditions from the Enza valley to the Cedra valley” it was designed for the dissemination of the sound assets of the research of the contents in the M&D Institute. A review, which began in spring, which saw 3,500 titles hosted, of which 400 related to ethnomusicology and 500 related to field recordings of traditional oral music.
Ethnomusicology is a part of musicology that studies the oral musical traditions of all the peoples of the world. Until a few decades ago it was called, albeit in a generalized way, comparative musicology since one of its aims is the comparison of the music of non-European peoples with each other and with that of Western peoples. Today, however, musicology has become an autonomous science and constitutes perhaps the most authentic and rich in ideas field for the research of musical traditions.
This project, which began in the spring, will be brought, in collaboration with the Municipalities of Vetto and Canossa for the Reggio Emilia side and those of Palanzano and Monchio delle Corti for the Parma side, to territories that will reflect the sound sources of the research.
