In Lugo two days of celebrations for the anniversary of the death of Francesco Baracca

The city of Lugo and the «Francesco Baracca» museum, on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the death of Francesco Baracca, propose “Fly to Lugo!”, a program of celebrations and events spread over two days, Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th June . The knight of the skies died on 19 June 1918 in Nervesa. His plane is shot down during the Battle of Solstice.

It starts on Wednesday 19 June at 5pm in the Sala Baracca della Rocca, the first historic location of the museum dedicated to the aviator, with the presentation of the book Silvio Scaroni. “The ace who became General”, by and with Paolo Varriale; author among the most important biographers of Baracca, in this recent publication edited by the Air Force he talks to us about the second ace of Italian aviation. Following, at 6pm, a special guided tour of the Baracca Museum led by Varriale himself.
At 7pm, meeting at the Domenico Rambelli monument in Piazza Baracca, a motorbike procession will start and the laying of laurel wreaths, organized by the Motoclub Baracca Lugo; the procession will move from the square to the museum, and then continue to the monumental cemetery, where the tomb of the Baracca family is located.
Finally, at 9pm we return to Piazza Baracca with the concert of the Musical Band of the City of Imola, an orchestra made up of around sixty elements, which for the occasion offers a specific program that ranges from Rossini’s music to hymns and songs from the Great War such as “The legend of the Piave”, without disdaining forays into the great cinematographic music of Morricone. The concert is organized in collaboration with the Lugo section of the Arma Aeronautica Association.
For the whole day on Wednesday 19 June, from 10am to 12pm and from 5pm to 7pm, entry to the Baracca museum will be free.

Thursday 20 June includes an important ceremony of laying a laurel wreath at the monument dedicated to Francesco Baracca in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, General Luca Goretti, and the mayor of Lugo Elena Zannoni. Afterwards, visit to the Baracca museum and placing a bouquet of flowers on the tomb of Francesco Baracca at the monumental cemetery of Lugo.
