The mayor of Montesilvano, Ottavio De Martinis, has decided to proclaim city mourning after the tragedy that saw two people, a mother and daughter aged around 10, die under a train passing through the station.
The fatal collision occurred in the late afternoon of Thursday 13 June.
Mother and daughter were hit by a passing Frecciarossa.
The impact was extremely violent and there was nothing that either of them could do. Investigations are underway by the Polfer of Pescara and Ancona to clarify the details of the affair. The hypothesis of a voluntary gesture has not been ruled out. The mayor also decided to cancel the party that had been organized for the afternoon of Friday 14 June to celebrate his re-election.
De Martinis himself announced it with a share on Facebook: «The sad and shocking news of the accident that occurred at the Montesilvano station where a woman and a little girl, presumably mother and daughter, tragically lost their lives, have led us to cancel the celebrations scheduled for Friday 14 June. As a sign of deep condolences, we will proclaim city mourning to express heartfelt participation in the pain of the families and acquaintances of the victims.”
