I’m the little one Carlotta D’Amico, 10 years, and Erika Colaianni to win the first edition of “Io Canto Family”, the engaging talent show hosted by Michelle Hunziker with the artistic direction of Roberto Cenci. Mother and daughter won over judges, audiences and viewers and won the prize money of 50,000 euros. The credit goes not only to their incredible voices, but also to the evident complicity that they have always brought to the stage, episode after episode.
“Io Canto Family”: the emotions of Carlotta and mother Erika
In the aftermath of the victory, we spoke to Erika, who shared his first sensations with us. Carlotta’s mother, a young Sicilian woman of 27 years old and resident in Santa Lucia del Mela, a small town in the province of Messina, is truly incredulous. «My legs gave out: it was incredible! I haven’t realized yet » she says immediately.
Erika, who had the idea of participating in “Io Canto Family”?
“I. I saw that there were castings, I sent a presentation video, forwarded the request and then we started auditioning.”
How did your daughter Carlotta react?
«She was very happy. I, on the other hand, was actually a little insecure… But I got courageous for her.”
What was it like accompanying your daughter through this experience?
«Difficult but beautiful. I see a little artist in her. As I was saying, I’m insecure but I tried to hide it to make Carlotta feel comfortable with her.
It was a devastating experience, in a good way of course.”
We saw that she was very emotional too.
«On stage I relived all our sacrifices. I was always crying! For my daughter, however, it was a game. In the end, for us, it was a revenge.”
Where did your passion for music originate?
«When I had Carlotta I was very young. I was only 17 years old and had a lot of confusion in my head. Her dad and I separated early. Then I met my partner, Manuela, with whom I will get married. So I had to come up against several prejudices. I couldn’t answer, so I started writing songs.”
It all started from one‘therefore need.
“Yes. And I soon realized that my daughter had a gift.”
What advice did Mietta give you?
«He always told Carlotta that she was very strong and good. You advised me to believe in myself more.”
Did you have a lucky charm?
“We always all had a lucky pepper in our pockets: me, my daughter, my dad and my partner.”
What will you do with the 50,000 euro prize pool?
«First of all we will invest them in Carlotta’s studies and training. Then we will take the trip to New York that she so desires.”
