Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown hugged for a long time after helping Boston avoid the biggest collapse in an NBA Finals game since at least 1997 against Dallas.
The reward? The Celtics’ stars are on the verge of joining the litany of great predecessors who have placed a flag above their home hardwood.
Tatum scored 31 points, Brown scored 30 and the Celtics held off a furious Dallas comeback to move within one win of their record-tying 18th championship with a 106-99 win over the Mavericks on Wednesday night for a 3-0 lead.
Brown added 8 rebounds and 8 assists as the Celtics extended their franchise record with their 10th straight playoff win and moved to 7-0 on the road this postseason. With a win Friday at Dallas, the Celtics can win the series and break a tie with the Lakers for the most championships in NBA history.
We’ll see if Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving will be able to bring the series back to Boston or the Dallas Mavericks will raise the white flag and concede the banner to the Boston Celtics.
