“The serious shortage of firefighters is increasingly critical, both at a national and territorial level. The elections are over, so we cannot be accused of campaigning (an accusation we received a few months ago). Today the shortage of staff of the Provincial Command of Livorno is so dramatic that only a team of firefighters could carry out emergency interventions: in the event that multiple emergencies occurred simultaneously in the area, teams would have to arrive from neighboring territories, with all the negative consequences that would result in terms of intervention times and therefore effectiveness of relief”.
The FP-Cgil union in the province of Livorno made this known through a note.
“They informed us that a competition for firefighters will be released at a national level within the year, but the process will end in two years. In the meantime, another 30 firefighters at the provincial command will retire and at that point the situation will become further tragic. We therefore ask the relevant bodies – such as the Prefecture – for urgent intervention on the issue with the Ministry to try to stem this situation”, conclude the union.
