FUEL PRICES DROPPING

Positive start to the summer season, at least, on the fuel front: prices at the pump, both for self-service and self-service, are decreasing. According to data processed by Figisc (Italian Federation of Road Fuel Plant Managers) – Confcommercio, since April 23 to June 9 the national average price calculated on the basis of the MIMIT file of daily prices charged fell between 6.4 and 6.9 cents/litre for petrol and between 10.0 and 10.2 for diesel, depending on the refueling method ( self or served).

For petrol, the price is 0.7-1.1 cents/liter lower than to the 2024 average which is 1.999 euros/litre for the served and 1.861 for the self, for diesel, however, the price is around 7.7-8.0 cents/litre below the 2024 average levels, equal to 1.919 for the served and 1,779 for self.

It is estimated that the saving on a full tank of petrol for a medium-sized car is around 3 euros, a few euros more if the car is diesel. But if the drop in spending may not yet appear to be so incisive, in fact, it is still a positive reversal of trend.

He confirms it Eugenio Volpato, president of the Figisc-Confcommercio fuel plant managers of the province of Vicenza: “The decrease in prices is underway and is essentially due to market dynamics – he explains -. The cost of fuel at the pump reflects with a high direct correlation the trend in prices of finished products, Platt’s CIF Mediterranean, i.e. the “fuel exchange”. In addition to a product supply that may have exceeded demand, statistics show that a different modulation of the gross industrial margin has also occurred in recent months. In these dynamics – he continues – we managers of fuel plants, as if to say the last link in the chain, apply to the pump the price indicated to us by the oil companies, and which fortunately for end consumers, in this period, is lower compared to the past. We hope it will stay that way for a long time.”

President Volpato then specifies: “The price of petrol is made up of 57.41% taxes and for diesel the percentage is 54.33. For a more effective and long-lasting decrease in prices at the pump, it would be enough to reduce this percentage, something that so far no Government has ever thought of doing in a stable way.”
